Advertising Positions for PR Sponsorship Compliance
Advertising Faculty Positions
If a UGA department is conducting a search for a position that has any percentile of teaching responsibilities and the department anticipates attracting international applicants (non-U.S. citizens and non-U.S. permanent residents) to the candidate pool, time and money can be saved by advertising in compliance with the Department of Labor's permanent residency (PERM) requirements. If your final selection is an international who needs the university to sponsor him or her for permanent residency then the advertisement and the applicant pool can be used for this purpose provided that the Labor Certification application is submitted to the Dept. of Labor within 18 months of the job offer.
Detailed information pertaining to the advertisement content is found here:
If you select an international for the position and he or she accepts, please forward a copy of the job offer letter to: Robin Catmur, Director, ISSIS-OIE, 1324 South Lumpkin St., Athens, GA 30602.
If you select an international for a teaching position without a national search, or after using advertising that does not meet the guidelines in the information sheet linked above, then we will need to re-advertise and re-recruit before we can file for U.S. permanent residency.
Need more information? Please contact the OIE International Student/Scholar and Immigration Services (ISSIS) at 706 542-2900 or e-mail Robin Catmur at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Advertising Non-Teaching Staff or Research Positions:
The Department of Labor advertising requirements for non-teaching positions are extensive and detailed. If you wish to sponsor a current non-teaching employee for permanent residency, we will need to conduct a "test of the labor market" to ensure that no minimally qualified U.S. workers are willing and able to take the job. If you are implementing a national search for an open non-teaching position, and you anticipate attracting international candidates, you may wish to advertise in compliance with Department of Labor requirements.
Please contact ISSIS at email@example.com if you wish to begin advertising for a non-teaching position.
