Verifying Legal Employment: I-9 Process Information

Under U.S. Law, all employees must present evidence of legal ability to accept employment in the U.S. at the time they begin work. This is called the "I-9 Process", referring to the form which must be completed by the employer's representative. This process can be somewhat confusing for internationals, as there are a wide variety of possible documents that can be shown to evidence legal ability to work.

Please click on the link below for information on the I-9 process as it relates to verification of legal work authorization for international employees.

For questions regarding specific documents that may be shown by internationals holding a U.S. visa, please contact Robin Catmur in the Office of Immigration Services at UGA: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
